Amazing B sides

Over the past few years I have started to collect some fantastic vinyl 45s again. Some have been bought from car boot sales for next to nothing and others I have paid a few quid for, although to be honest I have not paid more than £12 yet. I already had quite a few great Soul and R&B singles from my early Mod days and have often been amazed at just how good some of the B sides are on these tracks. I will start off with the B side to a record I have had since 1982. 'Mockingbird' by Inez Foxx was the first record released on the British Sue label in 1963 (as far as I am aware), as well as the main track being superb the B side called 'He's the one You Love' is fantastic too. So what are your own favourite B sides to these crackin records.

    • Top track there MG, has an early 1960s beat feel to it.

  • was playing some of my Housemartins records earlier and remembered just how many great b sides they put out. I know it is straying away slightly from the Mod domain but hey ho. Their brilliant track 'Me and the Farmer' has and even more brilliant b side in 'I Bit my Lip.' If there is anyone out there who has not heard it you should check it out.

    • I love the Housemartins Chris, superb lyrically too and when they did "Caravan of love", acapella, live, was truly outstanding.

    • Yeah I thought they were a crackin band Al. There are not many bands from that era that I still listen to but they were really good.

    • Thanks Chris I'll check that out. Let's face it we all listen to non mod related music. I for one collect post punk, and Psych records.

    • Very true Harry, I do not know a soul who is into the scene and does not listen to other music genres, a lot different to when I was first into it all. I love a lot of the post punk stuff and have a decent collection of vinyls reflecting it. I like the psych stuff but tbh do not have much in the way of records.

    • I believe and always will believe that there is no such thing as Mod music. To me, it has always been about the music that Mods listen to. Which is usually, the best, most diverse and sometimes eclectic musical genres of any given time... Being a Mod is about being stylishly progressive, in the coolest possible way, without quarter. While still appreciating the good taste in others, even if they do it better and having the courage to stand by your own individual tastes and principles regardless... Bury me a Mod? Too fuckin' right.

    • Very well put Gary, even if I did not always appreciate the good taste of others ha ha.

    • I do believe the operative word is 'good' Chris. If you just put the word 'taste' you may well get away with it ;0) Ha,ha,ha
