Dobbie Gray did say that the original is still the greatest. And it was always said that covers were anathema (not sure what it means right enough) to the Mod scene.
But do people think there are exceptions to that rule. Although it was clearly said in the Mods book by Richard Barnes that a lot of the early 60s Mods went off the Stones after they covered Arthur Alexander's 'You Better Move On' I have to admit that I liked the Stones version better, as I thought the original sounded a bit too country for me. Another one I am unsure about is the song 'Beggin.' Its hard to choose between the Four Seasons original and the 1968 version by Timebox. So are covers totally off limits, or do people have their own examples where they prefer the cover to the original ?
