Just bought a cufflinks box with the Lord Kitchener's Valet logo printed on a silk-lined interior - the cufflinks are Swank and also look period - any way of dating these

  • Sorry to disappoint you Perry, but the cufflinks and I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet box are in no way related to each other. I have been collecting I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet items - a mug and 7 miniature plates - for a few years now and have managed to find them all the way down here in Australia, purchasing them for a song.

The box could be best dated from 1966-1977, as I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet was only around for this brief period. It first started in Notting Hill at 293 Portobello Road and another in Foubert's Street. In 1967, Ian Fisk and John Paul had further expanded these stores in other parts of London such as Carnaby and Wardour Streets, later on in Piccadilly Circus and then the King's Road, by which it was called I Was Kitchener's Thing.

As far as Swank Incorporated is/was, the cufflinks were from this American accessories company which had started in 1897 and "was acquired in 2012 by Randa Accessories", according to their website. I guess the cufflinks and tie slide would be from about 1940's-1970's.

    Nice purchase, all the same!
