TV programmes and films - what are your favourites?

Just wondering what we all watch when there's not much on the television? Quadrophenia is the obvious one of course, but I confess I've never seen it all the way through.
On the series front, on my shelf there are box sets of the Mrs Peel & Tara King Avengers, of Gerry Anderson’s UFO, some original Star Trek.
Films wise, I’ve the 1967 Casino Royale (plotless and confused, but I love every weird minute), The Italian Job, Roman Holiday, all the Beatles films (sorry…), Breakfast at Tiffany's, etc. There’s Metropolis, some lesser known French films, a Small Faces documentary, and Cracked Actor.
On the more general side of things there are also two of my favourite films, 2001 and Lawrence of Arabia, but my favourite film of all must be How to Steal a Million, with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O’Toole.

What're your favourites?

    • Just wanted to add The Man From Uncle, James Bond, I Spy, were Mod influences for me of a Cool sharp look in 60s Suits. Robert Vaughn was class as Napoleon Solo, intense in The Magnificent Seven, Named as one of the best Villains in the Columbo Films.

    • Thanks for the nudge back in the direction of the original thread Steve; in 1965 I was convinced that I had a future career as a secret agent working for MI5 ~ lol!

Actually I was given the Complete Collection of The Man From Uncle on DVD last year. Never thought I'd be watching them again with my kids 50 years later! BIig fan, now as back then.

  • 'The night of' was brilliant.

    • Make you right about that Dave.   HBO always present very well produced and acted series. It was a very depressing view of the justice and prison system in New York.

The cast were very believable in an extraordinary  situation. Had James Goldifini lived, it is  my understanding that he would have played the legal advisor with the bad feet.

Calling it brilliant is not an exaggeration. All a matter of opinion of course

    • I find so few TV shows that I really enjoy so The night of was a rare find for me.  John Turturro was fantastic.

  • While I'm at it, I cannot get over the election of Trump. He has always reminded me of a villain from Gotham City. One that Batman couldn't stop this time.

    We live in interesting times.

    • hell, were doing a great job destroying ourselves. I came in from Standing rock North Dakota and its BAD. the cops are even arresting and assaulting men of the cloth (Pastors, priests, rabbis etc.)

    • No D.A.P.L. ( NO Dakota Access Pipe Line)

    • Don't laugh. I just might hightail it out of here before too long. The USA is now a scary country. Especially in North Dakota.

    • Sorry to hear that Duane......you shouldn't have to leave your native homeland out of fear. (This coming from a Jew in Indiana !?!)
