What Gig's Have You Been To?

Couldn't see a thread dedicated to live music.

I went to see The Specials last night at Rock City,Nottingham.  Good gig small venue (about 2500).  Decent atmosphere.  Was almost a very short concert with Mr Hall threatening to walk off after bottles were thrown.  It seems some people just can't help acting like idiots.  Some well dressed folks about too.  I'm always blown away when I see a women skinheads, a male skinhead so what?  But a woman skinhead that takes guts.

Wow!  ‘Touch The Sky’ was the show highlight for me.

    • Absolutely loved it last week. Dingwalls makes it extra- cool of course!

    • I can’t help comparing the Pumas’ album to Hot Chocolate’s 1974 debut ‘Cicero Park’ (an album I love, a guilty pleasure, I know). It  shares the same Mayfield influences, a similar atmospheric production and addresses the race and class issues of the day (nothing ever changes enough). Same racial mix in the band too, which always brings hope

If you haven’t heard it, look past the singles band that HC became and give it a go, it will repay you; particularly the title track and ‘Could Have Been Born In The Ghetto’.

    • Cheers, sure will, Steve!

  • Last Night I was watching the superb but decidedly not mod band Saint Etienne in Edinburgh and they were great.

    • Oh lucky you! To me they're still much more Mod than many others... my favourite band maybe, well, apart from the Beatles, obviously! :-)
