What I bought today...

Just thought that I'd start this topic as nobody has [bothered?] to start it yet!

I was in one of my local charity shops today and bought these women's basket-weave, tassel loafers for only $8.50 AUD! Absolutely brill, to say the least! ;-) Now I can wear them with my new trousers from Sportscraft (see link below) and my Ben Sherman boating blazers! They were made by Australian shoe manufacturer Sandler, as part of their "Easy Steps" collection which still exists today. I think these shoes were an absolute find and would make excellent work and leisure (by that I mean dancing) shoes!

I also picked up two of my lay-aways. The first being two pairs of capris trousers - one pair in black and another in navy. Don't let the "capri" style fool you. They actually look like full-length trouser on me. I paid $105 AUD for each pair, instead of $150.

The second lay-away I picked up today was this lovely dress from Target that I purchased on sale a couple of months ago!

Happy shopping my Mod brothers and sisters! Look forward to reading and seeing what you've bought!

  • Got myself a pair of Farah frogmouth, flat fronted, casual slacks this afternoon. In real time too! I walked into a local shop, had a nose about, spied a pair hanging up, thought to myself, "I shall have them smart looking strides." Walked up to the till, handed the young lady some dosh, she popped 'em in a bag then handed it to me. I said, "Thank you very much", stuck my chest out and London walked up the high street with a nice little grin on me all the way home ;0)

    • Till, hand over money... Can you still do that?

    • Yep! You sure can. It takes a bit more effort and the human connection is much more satisfying in my humble opinion. I shall be very sad to see the end of the personal touch but I suppose that's what we call progress...

    • It's funny you putting up the post with the Farah's plus Alan's comments. I had always thought they looked pretty good trousers, the only thing that put me off buying a pair was their association with casuals.
    • Farah's were mod/acid jazz well before the casuals and before that the reggae boys in the early to mid 70's. Worn with leather horsebit moccasins or clarks wallabees, aka earthman boots.

As ever imho, it's what an individual wears, does, or hears that's sharp as opposed to what's mod or not ;0)

    • Obviously things are different depending on what part of the country you hail from Gary. I have never heard of the reggae boys from the 1970s tbh. When casuals started appearing here around 83 i was getting my trousers made anyway so even if i thought some of the farah strides looked okay I would not really have bought them. Although the football casual thing was newish here I did not rate how they looked at all. A Mod up here would have been slagged off for wearing the same gear as the casuals.
    • Of course Chris and without a doubt it depends on each area. The next council estate over within any given city would have their own creative take on style, let alone different cities and towns. It's just my personal take on fashions and styles within my circles, which isn't flawless by any stretch mate ;0)

To be honest, I never came across many Scottish reggae rockers at west indian blues or soundsystem sessions. But hey! I could be wrong and stand corrected as I wasn't everywhere, nor went to them all, ha, ha.

    • I was there in spirit mate ha ha
    • Just a nice pair of Diadora Borg Elite, an Aquascutum Harrington and a Fulton brolly, to top the look off and the mind goes wandering back towards the eighties and Saturday afternoons Gary ;-)
