About Me:

I GOT INVOLVED IN THE GLASGOW MOD SCENE AS A VERY YOUNG LAD WHILST STILL AT SCHOOL AROUND 14 YEARS OF AGE ... THE MOMENT IT HAPPENED IS VERY CLEAR TO ME STILL...I WAS STANDING IN MY SCHOOL PLAYGROUND WHEN A BLOKE RIDES PAST ON A SCOOTER COVERED IN LAMPS AND MIRRORS HE HAD A SCARF COVERING HIS FACE AND THAT IMAGE JUST STUCK WITH ME......MONTHS LATER MY OLDER BROTHER BECAME A SCOOTER RIDING MOD, HE THEN INTRODUCED ME TO "MOD" THE SAME WAY AS I GUESS EVERYONE ELSE AT THAT TIME ( HE SNEAKED ME INTO LOCAL UNI TO SEE SHOWING OF QUADROPHENIA, THAT AND SEEING THE JAM ON T.O.T.P. THEN A LOVE OF 60S MUSIC E,T,C,) I BOUGHT MY FIRST SCOOTER A YEAR LATER EVEN THOUGH I WAS YEARS AWAY FROM LEGALLY RIDING IT ! AND SPENT A LONG TIME LEARNING HOW SCOOTERS WORKED OR IN THIS CASE DIDNT (LAMBRETTA J125 COST ME £20 STILL NOT SURE IF I OVER PAID ? I DO KNOW I HAD TO SELL A LOT OF PAPERS ON MY ROUND TO AFFORD IT !) FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS THE MOD SCENE IN GLASGOW (AND PARTICK WHERE I LIVED) WAS HUGE..HIGHLIGHTS FROM THAT TIME...MEETING A CERTAIN MR WELLER (VERY GRUMPY BXXXXXD) AND RIDING MY SCOOTER (A VESPA 90 REGISTERED AS A 50 ? WELL I WAS ONLY 16...OH I SWAPPED THE LAMBRETTA J FOR IT ?) LEGALLY AT LAST, MANY OF THE LADS N LASSIES FROM THAT TIME ARE STILL INVOLVED IN TODAYS SCENE...ONCE A MOD...AND ALL THAT !!! THESE DAYS IM A SOCIAL WORKER FOR LANARKSHIRE COUNCIL BUT STILL HAVE A SERIOUS OBSESSION WITH RICHARD BARNES "MODS" BOOK, 60S MUSIC AND CULTURE, LAMBRETTA SCOOTERS AND ALL THINGS "MOD".

Top 5 tunes at the moment:

ANYTHING WITH JANGLY RICKENBACKER, HAMMOND ORGAN OR HORN SECTION....CLASSIC. OTIS REDDING...SHAKE. THE ACTION....I LL KEEP ON HOLDING ON. TWISTED WHEEL....YOU STOLE THE SUN. DEXYS...THE TEAMS THAT MEET IN CAFFS. EVIE SANDS...PICTURE ME GONE.

  • He never let me down when asked to do job, but the wee bugger kept the original seat frame for my series 1 TV.

Didnt find out till months later it was worth a fortune according to nigel Cox, it was the dual seat and not the twin saddles. He used to tell me to keep quiet as barry clash always wanted his lammy painted but didnt want to pay!! LOL :-)

  • Ralph, was lookin through your snaps and seen spectrum lambretta sign on your wall, guy called tam fergie used to paint my scoots. Im sure at one tine he was a spectrum member, he painted an sx in BRG and a series 1 tv175 that i found in a shed in dunfermline. Is the spectrum club still on the go?  JP
