YOUNG MOD IN THE 60's pt 2

Thanks for the kind comments about part1.Peter Heed

I remember going up to London on saturday mornings on the red RoverRED ROVER.  For just 2s and you could go anywhere in London.

I would head straight down to the music shops in Shaftsbury Avenue and then onto CARNABY STREET.  All the shops were amazing - selling gear that, at the time you, couldn't get anywhere else.

London was really swinging and it was great to be part of it.  It was the best time of my life and also for thousands of young teenagers like me.

FIDDLERS PUB DAGENHAM 1967As I got older and had more money to spend I started buying better clothes. I remember paying 52s 6d for my first pair of levis and, yes, I did fill the bath and got in with the jeans on to shrink them to size - can't rember if it worked or not..

As the mod fashion got bigger you were able to buy better gear nearer to home and as lived in ILFORD we had great shops selling clothes shoes and fantastic record shops complete with listening booths wow.

It was a great period in my life one I will never forget.
